BACKGROUND

Themba Nko, known by his stage name Mthizo, is a rising artist hailing from the vibrant township of Zola in Soweto, South Africa. Growing up in Zola, a place renowned for producing Kwaito legends, Mthizo firmly believes that his musical journey is not just a personal passion but also a continuation of the township's rich legacy.

CAREER INFLUENCES

Mthizo's love for music was nurtured from a young age, thanks to his father's extensive music collection. This collection introduced him to the sounds of legendary artists such as Caiphus Semenya, Condry Ziqubu, Bra Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse, Bra Hugh Masikela, Brenda Fassie, and more. However, it was the bustling streets of Zola that truly ignited his musical aspirations, where he was exposed to the likes of Zola 7, Mandoza, Brown Dash, Brickz, Mapaputsi, and Gp Gangsta.

ARTISTIC STYLE AND APPROACH

Mthizo is a gifted rapper and songwriter whose lyrical content delves into the everyday occurrences of his neighborhood. He possesses a unique ability to address broader societal issues in South Africa by weaving them into the tapestry of his township experiences. Mthizo's choice of words, his use of "tsotsi taal" (street slang), and his gritty delivery style authentically capture the essence of life in his township.

In 2011, Mthizo made his debut with the street EP titled "Break in Mixtape, " a project that showcased his storytelling prowess in vernacular and English. This marked the beginning of his journey as a "Kasi Rapresenter. " In 2015, he was a vital part of the group "Iziphakami, " alongside Noks Matchbox, Maseven, and Sfilikwane. His 2017 single, "Zola, " gained immense popularity, solidifying Mthizo's name on the Kasirap map. The track received widespread acclaim on commercial radio stations and music television programs. Subsequent releases like "Yizo Mthizo, " "C’phila Kanje, " "Naz’ Lezinto, " "Ezakithi, " "On Fire, " and "Zwana Ła" continued to showcase his evolution as an artist. In 2023, Mthizo dropped "Dlala Kanje, " the first single from his highly anticipated debut album, "The Legend of the K.I.D., " set to be released in late 2023 or early 2024.
